Windmills and Barbed Wire

“Windmills and Barbed Wire” is intended to familiarize students of today with how the Texas frontier was settled — and specifically the critical role that water, windmills and barbed wire played in winning the west. The TEXAS WATER Dime Novels are about the Sullivan family who packed up their possessions and left Malvern Junction, Arkansas aboard a Texas & Pacific westbound train, and headed for a new life in Texas. It is through their experiences that we learn about how critical water quickly became to their survival and how they adapted to their new home.

PRICING AND AVAILABILITY…

It has been our approach to have our education materials sponsored for classroom use. ISD budgets continue to be tight, with little extra funds available for teachers to supplement classroom materials…even on a topic as critical as WATER. The materials are affordable and are provided to educators clearly identified with the sponsor’s name/logo. Sponsorship is available to MUDs, water authorities, water industry consultants, and interested business leaders or even parents or grandparents. Sets can also be purchased for use in libraries.

We feature an Educator’s page on the website for posting of updates, teacher input/classroom experiences/photos and examples of projects. Website information is provided with the materials.

The Dime Novels and Readers Guide available by classroom – either in a set of 30 books/2 Readers Guides ($92) or by specific quantity (Dime Novels $3 each; Readers Guides $1 each). When all three Dime Novels in the Winning the West Series are published, special pricing will be available for those who wish to purchase
all three books and Readers Guides in classroom sets.
